The Pomegranate

“Rimon” in Hebrew

Grown in Israel for thousands of years, it is an ancient symbol that still nourishes, delights, and inspires.

King Solomon is said to have designed his crown based on the “crown” of the pomegranate. The Pomegranate is seen on coins of ancient Judea, one of only a few images that appear as a holy symbol.

The pomegranate represents fruitfulness, knowledge, learning, and wisdom. As such, it is customary to eat pomegranates on the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah.

Today, scientists have been discovering new ways in which the antioxidant-rich pomegranate continues to benefit our health. Most recently, a team of researchers at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have found that drinking pomegranate juice daily can reduce the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes. Moreover, through the ingenuity of Israeli agro-science, pomegranates are even being grown in the Negev desert.

This is one more example of Israel, a tiny ancient nation that looks back to its past with reverence and respect while always reimagining, reinventing and renewing the future for its citizens as well as for countries and people near and far.

We wish you, your family, loved ones and the people of Israel a peaceful, sweet and prosperous new year as plentiful with goodness as the seeds of the pomegranate!
